A round table was held in Riyadh on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia

On December 10th, 2019, in Riyadh, a “round table” was held at the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies at the KSA Foreign Ministry, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The event was attended by Saudi experts, diplomats, public figures, representatives of academia, the media and others.

In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Saudi Arabia B. Aryn gave a brief overview of the main stages of the establishment and the development of Kazakhstan-Saudi relations, shared his vision of further prospects for bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment and other fields. At the same time, he emphasized the need to seek new forms of cooperation to stimulate mutual investment and trade.

In his speech, the Director of the Institute for Diplomatic Studies, Dr. Abdullah bin Hamad al-Salama, noted that exactly a quarter of a century ago the foundations of special trustful and respectful relations were laid between our countries, which, thanks to the wise and verified policies of the heads of the two states, are now actively developing in all areas of interstate relations for the good of the peoples of the two countries.

According to him, currently the most favorable conditions exist for building up the entire complex of bilateral cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan. At the same time, in his opinion, the issue of revitalization of trade and economic ties requires serious additional efforts. In this regard, he shared his vision about what specific areas of the economies of the two countries may be of interest in terms of the development of mutual trade and investment.

The main report at the "round table" was made by the Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University academic G. Mutanov. In his speech, he revealed the historical milestones of the formation and development of modern Kazakhstan, spoke about the successfully implemented international initiatives of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Leader of the Nation N. Nazarbayev, thanks to which the republic is known today in the world community as the leader of the global anti-nuclear movement, has well-deserved authority and respect in the world community . He noted that over the past years, Kazakh-Saudi relations have successfully passed the stage of formation and reached a qualitatively new level of development, and now an understanding has been reached of the need to intensify traditional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia in all areas.

He also acquainted the participants with the activities and achievements of the University he headed, the role of science and education in Kazakhstani society, his contribution to the process of modernization and scientific and technological development of the country.

In addition, the Rector informed about large-scale events planned in Kazakhstan next year dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the great thinker and scientist Abu Nasr al-Farabi, and called for active efforts to implement joint projects and programs to revive the memory of the great scientists of the Islamic world, to promote science and knowledge in Muslim countries.

The round table participants praised the dynamic development of Kazakh-Saudi relations at the present stage. Nevertheless, they concluded that the current level of cooperation in the trade, economic, investment, and tourism spheres does not correspond to the existing potential. In this regard, the participants expressed concrete proposals and recommendations aimed at revealing new opportunities for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the two friendly countries.

It should be noted that the Institute of Diplomatic Studies was created by one of the prominent diplomats of our time - the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the KSA, Prince Saud Al Faisal, and after his death was renamed in his honor.

The Saudi Diplomatic Research Institute has been training diplomats for two years under the master's program. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducts a one-year continuing education course for newly hired employees. In addition, various studies are being conducted on international issues and issues of international relations of Saudi Arabia. There are 4 research centers at the institute: 1) Center for Strategic Studies; 2) American Research Center; 3) European Research Center; 4) Asian Research Center.

As part of the event, the books of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Leader of the Nation N. Nazarbayev "The Kazakhstan Way", and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Tokayev "Diplomacy of the Republic of Kazakhstan" and "Kazakhstan in the New World ” in Arabic language, were handed over to the library fund of the Institute of Diplomatic Studies named after Prince Saud Al Faisal at the KSA Foreign Ministry and the roundtable participants.
