On December 19, 2019, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Mr.Temirbaev paid a working visit to Mažeikiai. During the visit, the Kazakh diplomat met the mayor of the city and the district V.Macevičius, business society of the city, visited the Mažeikių Merkelio Račkausko gimnazija.
Within the framework of the meetings, agreements were reached on cooperation between Mažeikiai and the regions of Kazakhstan, as well as specific economic and cultural projects were discussed.
Visiting the Mažeikių Merkelio Račkausko gimnazija, the Ambassador took part in an open lesson on Kazakhstan and presented interesting books about our country to school, including a collection of Kazakh fairy tales in Lithuanian and a set for playing the Kazakh national intellectual game Togyzkumalak along with the manual to play this traditional game in Lithuanian.
Mažeikiai is the home of the largest oil refinery in the Baltic countries Mažeikių nafta.
