State and Prospects of Kazakh-British Cooperation Discussed at Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry

Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom is based on solid foundations and has positive prospects for further development across the entire spectrum of relations. This conclusion was reached today by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko and Director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Martin Harris, during the meeting at the MFA, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.

The interlocutors discussed the status and prospects of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on a wide range of current issues of regional and international agendas. The diplomats welcomed the preparations for the signing of a new Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom and outlined plans for reciprocal visits.

The British diplomat was informed about the implementation of the large-scale political and socio-economic reforms initiated by the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aimed at building the “New Kazakhstan”.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of common interest, particularly in energy, infrastructure development, science and technology, innovations, as well as in education, healthcare and culture.

In 30 years of cooperation, our countries have established close political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian ties. The United Kingdom is in the top ten trade partners of Kazakhstan in terms of trade turnover (2021 - 1.16 billion dollars). From January to April this year, trade turnover increased by 13% (460 million dollars), compared with the same period of last year.

The United Kingdom is also one of the six biggest investors in Kazakhstan. Between 2005 and 2021, the inflow of direct investments from the UK into Kazakhstan exceeded 16 billion dollars.
