On July 5, 6, 8 and 9, the Astana Ballet stage will host an Evening of European Choreography, accompanied by the theater's symphony orchestra led by maestro Arman Urazgaliyev. In the first part of the evening, fans of choreographic art will be able to enjoy the premiere of the ballet "Orpheus and Eurydice" directed by Kristina Paulin, a former dancer of the Hamburg John Neumeier Ballet, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.

“The action of this performance seems to take place in modern, but also in indefinite time. That is, it is out of time. To do this, I use dance elements of modern and neoclassical. At the same time, I really like to develop the philosophy of the characters, to guess how they will act, going beyond the time frame of the myth. Along the way, raising spiritual and philosophical eternal questions that a thinking person has always asked and will always ask himself. This ballet is based on the tragic story of two heroes - Orpheus and Eurydice. At the same time, the performance touches, first of all, on the theme of separation and the loss of a loved one. As for spiritual issues, the performance raises themes of the meaning of life in general, as such. Orpheus is looking for a meeting with his beloved, that is, with her soul after death. And, losing Eurydice, he finds answers to all these questions, while being in a monastery. Where he understands that he will be able to meet Eurydice beyond the last line, when their souls will unite forever,” shared Kristina Paulin, choreographer.

The ballet is set to the charming, melodic music by composers Sergei Prokofiev, Edward William Elgar, George Frideric Handel, and Davidson Giaconello, which emphasizes and highlights what is happening on stage. The symbolism of this myth is reflected in the stage costumes by the German costume designer Dennis Peschke, and uneven mirror geometric images resembling mountains are used in the scenery by the Czech stage designer Otto Bubeniček. What is happening on stage will grip the attention of the audience with an interesting plot, will attract all attention to the powerful impulse that comes from the dancers.

In the second part of the evening, admirers of choreographic art will have a chance to enjoy the choreographic miniature “Falling Angels” by the genius of modern dance Jiří Kylián to the music of Steve Reich, which premiered with great success on April 1 and 2 this year at the Astana Ballet Theatre. Choreographer Stefan Zeromski staged one of the most famous black-and-white ballets at the capital’s theatre.

The performance will be accompanied by the live sound of drums: four percussionists, a percussion group of the symphony orchestra of the Astana Ballet Theater, led by concertmaster Zhasulan Kabimolla, will perform the most difficult work of the American minimalist Steven Reich "Drumming", while organically matching the tempo and rhythm with the artists on stage, introducing auditorium in a hypnotic trance.

The events dedicated to the Day of the Capital will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
