Kazakhstan’s delegation headed by Mr. Nurkan Sadvakassov, Chairman, Committee of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control, Ministry of Healthcare, is taking part in the 6th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol on Water and Health to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, organized by UNECE and WHO, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.
Speaking at a high-level session on strengthening the resilience of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and health services in times of climate change and pandemics on November 16, 2022, Mr. Sadvakassov shared Kazakhstan’s experience and lessons learned from COVID-19 pandemic related to water, health and sanitation. He spoke about the innovations in pandemic response and recovery introduced by our country, including new methods of assessment of epidemiological situation in regions, opening new infectious diseases hospitals, developing QazVac vaccine and use of digital technology.
Kazakhstan has integrated WASH in its policy and regulations. Our country is committed to achieving SDGs 3 and 6, and fostering an open dialogue to tackle water and health related challenges in the region.
On November 17, 2022, delegation of Kazakhstan held a meeting with the UNECE Executive Secretary Ms. Olga Algayerova.
They discussed the process of Kazakhstan's accession to the Protocol, joint projects, and preparation for the UN Water Conference to be held in March 2023. Kazakhstan and UN representatives expressed satisfaction with the dynamics of our country’s cooperation with UNECE and WHO, and hope for further implementation of joint projects.
