On November 25, 2022, the Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong SAR and Macao, China Seytakynov Almas held a meeting with the Director of the Central Library of Hong Kong Ms. Melinda, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between the Central Library of Hong Kong and the libraries of Kazakhstan, as well as the possibility of studying the experience of the Hong Kong side in the storage and digitalization of rare and historical books and manuscripts.
The parties agreed to include the Kazakh language in the library's program for self-study in foreign languages for the first time.
Books of famous Kazakhstani writers (A.Kunanbayev, M.Auyezov, M.Makatev, etc.), as well as a collection of Kazakh folk songs were transferred to the library fund.
The Central Library of Hong Kong is one of the largest and most visited in China (more than 1 million readers visit each year). The library's collection contains more than 2.5 million books and ancient manuscripts.
The library has a program for self-study in foreign languages, according to which all interested citizens can study various languages. More than 70 languages of the world are represented in this program.
