National Mourning Day in the Republic of Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokaev declared Saturday, December 28, the day of nationwide mourning in connection with the death of people as a result of a plane crash in the Almaty region. This was announced by spokesman for the head of state Berik Kurmangali.

“Tokaev declared December 28, 2019 as the day of national mourning in connection with the death of people during the crash of a passenger plane near Almaty,” Interfax quoted him as saying.


In connection with the announcement on December 28 of national mourning, Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev ordered to lower the state flags and cancel all the entertainment events in the country.

On the morning of December 27, a BEK AIR plane lost altitude during take-off and collided with a concrete fence. As it became known later, he crashed into a house under construction, which was empty.

In total, as a result of the accident, 12 people were killed, 53 people were hospitalized in various medical institutions of Almaty, of which 8 was assessed as extremely serious.
