Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Permanent Representative to the African Union Barlybay Sadykov visited the Sidama region, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.
In the capital of the region, he was received by the mayor of Hawassa, Tsegaye Tuke Kia.
The parties discussed cooperation in the economic sphere. In particular, the issues of the development of bilateral trade, as well as investment cooperation between the regions of Kazakhstan and the Sidama region in Southern Ethiopia were touched upon.
These issues were discussed in more detail during the Ambassador's meeting with representatives of big business in Hawassa with the participation of the Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Davit Verde Giorgio. In his presentation, B.Sadykov informed businessmen about the modern economic development of Kazakhstan, presented the broad opportunities of the Kazakh market, outlined the prospects for increasing joint trade and the country's policy of protecting foreign investment. In conclusion, the parties noted good opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation and joint business projects in the fields of agricultural machinery, textile industry and tourism.
The leadership of the city of Hawassa acquainted the Ambassador with the activities of the special economic zone «Hawassa Industrial Park», on the site of which 23 leading global companies for the production of clothing and textiles from the USA, Europe, China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc. launched their activities. More than 60 thousand people work in the park.
During the meeting, the General Director of the Hawassa Industrial Park Matios Ashenafi Jiraye welcomed Kazakhstan's interest in developing joint trade and expressed readiness to host Kazakhstani companies in the park.
As part of the expansion of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the ambassador met with the leadership of the largest Federal University of Hawassa and more than 30 thousand students’ study there. The meeting was held in the format of a lively discussion, which showed the interest of students and faculty of the University in our country. B. Sadykov, paying attention to the reforms in the field of education in Kazakhstan, explained the prospects for obtaining higher education in the country's universities.
For his part, the President of Hawassa University, Dr. Ayano Berasso expressed interest in cooperation with Universities of Kazakhstan, and stressed the need to exchange experience, research and technology, especially in the field of agriculture. A. Berasso acquainted the Ambassador of Kazakhstan with the educational and scientific achievements of the University.
The Sidama region is multinational and located in the South of Ethiopia. Sidama is one of the three main regions of Ethiopia, accounting for about 40% of the coffee produced in the country. Most of the coffee produced here belong to the best grades of the first and second class of quality.
