Trans-Caspian Corridor: a Bridge between Asia and Europe

At the initiative of the Bulgarian side, Ambassador of Kazakhstan Viktor Temirbayev met with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Minister of Transport and Communications of Bulgaria Hristo Aleksiev, DKNews.kz reports.

The meeting, which was also attended by Azerbaijani Ambassadors Huseyn Huseynov and Georgian Ambassador Otar Berdzenishvili, discussed issues and prospects for the further development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor).

The Kazakh diplomat stressed the increasing role of the corridor in ensuring transit flows between Europe, Central Asia and China. At the same time, Ambassador V.Temirbayev informed about the ongoing work to develop and increase the capacity of Kazakh ports along the Middle Corridor, in particular about the planned completion by 2025 of the construction of a container hub in the port of Aktau and a multifunctional sea terminal «Sarzha» in the port of Kuryk.

In turn, Minister H.Aleksiev emphasized that Bulgaria has the potential to become a transport and logistics hub for transportation between Asia and Europe, and noted the need to intensify joint work on the development of the Middle Corridor in order to increase mutual trade.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain working contacts on all topical issues.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR or Middle Corridor) is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Turkey and European countries.
