Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan: partnership for peace and security

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakayev participated in the meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, held in Ashgabat in a hybrid format as part of the celebration of the International Neutrality Day, DKNews.kz reports.

Congratulating the Government of Turkmenistan on the 28th Anniversary of its neutral status, the Kazakh diplomat highly appreciated the successful initiative of the Turkmen side to declare December 12 as the International Day of Neutrality, approved by the UN General Assembly in February 2017.

In addition, the Kazakh diplomat emphasized the importance of continuing a number creative processes in the Central Asian region aimed at solving challenges in the field of security and sustainable development. In this context, he outlined the relevance of Kazakhstan’s initiative to create a UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty.

The Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development is an informal association that includes more than 20 countries, including Kazakhstan and has been operating since 2020 at the initiative of Turkmenistan. The Group's activities are focused on exchanging views and strengthening international dialogue.
