Kazakhstan gathered leading Turkologists at the Congress on ethnolanguage diversity

The II International Congress "Ethno-linguistic Diversity of the World and Turkic Heritage", which brought together leading researchers, linguists and culturologists to discuss topical issues related to the preservation and study of ethno-linguistic wealth in the world, started at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, DKNews.kz reports.

The congress was organized by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies, as well as the Institute of Linguistics named after A. Baitursynov of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The event included a parade of presentations of research projects of Al-Farabi KazNU and A. Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics.

The event was opened by the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, emphasizing the importance of the Congress on the eve of the 90th anniversary of the University. He introduced to the audience the honorable participants of the Congress - prominent scientists - Turkic scholars from near and far abroad, noting the importance of strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties of fraternal peoples, which was mentioned in an interview with the newspaper "Egemen Kazakhstan" President of RK K.K.Tokayev. Recently, cooperation between Turkic states and Turkic-speaking peoples has been growing. Special attention is paid to humanitarian ties, integration in the sphere of science and education. The Congress is a fruitful result of this close interaction.

"Today the chair of Turkicology and language theory successfully functions at the university. On the basis of KazNU the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies has been created. Currently, the specialists of the center are conducting extensive research work on the study of rare manuscripts and ancient books. We intend to create a common dictionary of Turkic languages. The event is aimed at encouraging dialogue and knowledge exchange to support the diversity of languages and cultures, preserving and promoting the linguistic diversity of Turkology and Altaic studies" Zhanseit Tuimebayev

Askhat Kesikbayev, Vice-President of the Turkic Academy, also addressed the Congress participants with a welcoming speech.

"The theme of the Congress is relevant by the very statement of the question "About the place of Turkic languages in the linguistic palette of ethnic groups of the world. Today there are more than 6 thousand world languages registered in the world. At the same time, according to the data of geographical communities, every two weeks one language disappears, because the last of its speakers leave. If this trend continues, by the end of this century, human civilization may lose almost 3.5 thousand languages. Meanwhile, each language is unique and reflects the picture of the world, and its value is unconditional" Askhat Kesikbayev

The plenary session was also addressed by: President of the "Academy of Kazakh Language" and "International Turkological Center", Dr. Phil. Sci., Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of RK Erden Kazhybek, Dr. Phil. Sci., Honorary President of KazPRYAL, Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Eleonora Suleimenova, Dr. Phil. Sci. D., professor of the Uzbek State University of World Languages Dusmamat Kulmamatov, Ph.D., professor, executive director of the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Nursulu Shaimerdenova, Ph.D., professor, head of the Department of Turkology and Language Theory of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Raushangul Avakova and others.

The Congress will be held for three days. The program includes more than 100 participants from Azerbaijan, Korea, Kazakhstan, USA, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Uzbekistan.
