BagJan - FlyArystan's new innovative self-service bag drop off service in Central Asia, DKNews.kz reports.
FlyArystan, Kazakhstan's leading low-cost carrier continues to work on innovative solutions and introduces its latest technology - Baggage Drop-Off (BagJan) at Almaty International Airport.
Following the 2022 successful launch of the iJan self-service passenger terminals (the first in Central Asia, where passengers can scan their documents, have the option to choose a seat and check-in, weigh their baggage and receive a baggage tag), BagJan represents the next stage in the carrier's development, providing a faster and more convenient baggage drop-off process.
This service is designed to meet the modern needs of passengers, allowing them to significantly reduce the time spent in queues at the airport and makes the process of pre-flight procedures quick and convenient.
How does it work?
The passenger checks in either:
- Online with no fee via FlyArystan app or website.
- Or using the iJan terminal at the airport for an additional fee.
2. The passenger weighs and checks in their baggage, through the iJan terminal. The terminal issues a baggage tag, which must be secured on the top of the baggage to allow for a clear scan of the tag.
3. After attaching the tag, the passenger drops off the baggage at a special BagJan drop-off counter, which is equipped with a device that scans the tag and checks the actual weight of the baggage against the registered iJan bag weight.
- If the registered weight does not coincide with the weight at BagJan (regardless of whether it is higher or lower), the baggage must be removed from the belt and brought back to the weight confirmed at iJan bag check-in.
- Once the weight is matched, the baggage belt will automatically start and send the suitcase to the baggage compartment, ready to be loaded onto the airplane.
4. The passenger then makes their way to the boarding gate.
Using this innovative service passengers bypass queues and can independently complete their pre-flight procedures. Should assistance be needed, the airline's representatives are always on hand, to explain to passengers how to use the automated services.
"The introduction of BagJan is the next step in improving our passenger service and demonstrates how FlyArystan is keeping pace with global developments and responding to the needs of today's travellers. We are proud that we can delight Kazakhstanis with technologies that are popular around the world, and believe Kazakhstan deserves to have access to the best innovative solutions available in civil aviation" Adrian Hamilton-Manns, President of FlyArystan
It should be noted that the BagJan equipment has a special screen to communicate with the passenger, for example, the compliance of weight and successful registration, or a request to bring the weight of baggage back to the declared weight registered at iJan.
To date, BagJan self-check-in technology is available at Almaty airport for flights within Kazakhstan. In the future, the air carrier plans to introduce this service to other airports across the country.
