Vladimir Putin Arrived in Astana to Participate in the SCO Summit, DKnews.kz reports.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin arrived in Astana to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. He was greeted at the airport by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov.

Welcome at the Airport

At the Nur-Sultan Nazarbayev International Airport in Astana, Vladimir Putin was warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov. This significant event highlights the importance of cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan within the framework of the SCO.

Participation in the SCO Summit

Vladimir Putin will participate in the SCO Summit, where the leaders of member countries will discuss key issues of security, economy, and international cooperation. The SCO was founded in 2001 by six countries—Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Later, Iran, India, and Pakistan joined the organization.

Trade Growth

Over the past five years, Kazakhstan's trade turnover with SCO countries has significantly increased, showing a growth of 56.5% and reaching $66 billion. In January-April 2024, the volume of mutual trade within the organization amounted to $19.1 billion. During the same period, Kazakhstan's trade turnover with Russia was $7.4 billion.

Importance of the Summit

The SCO Summit in Astana will become an important platform for strengthening cooperation among member countries. Leaders will discuss ways to further develop economic ties, joint initiatives in the field of security, and new projects aimed at improving the well-being of the region's people. Vladimir Putin's participation in the summit underscores the importance of these efforts and the commitment to strengthening centuries-old ties between Russia and the countries of Central Asia.
