On the Occasion of the 33rd Anniversary of the Closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site a Photo Exhibition has Opened in Bulgaria, DKnews.kz reports
A thematic photo exhibition dedicated to the International Day against Nuclear Tests and the 33rd Anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site was opened in one of the largest cultural, educational and scientific support institutions in Bulgaria – the National Library “Ivan Vazov” in Plovdiv.
The event was attended by the leadership of the City Municipality, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, library staff, and representatives of the diaspora, the Bulgarian public and the media.
Kazakh diplomats focused on the importance of this memorable date for our people and global initiatives of Kazakhstan in the field of building a world free of nuclear weapons.
The Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv, Plamen Panov, who also addressed the participants of the event, noted that thanks to the efforts of our country, August 29 was declared the International Day of Action against Nuclear Tests.
Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan Plamen Panchev stressed that Kazakhstan’s policy aimed at ridding humanity of nuclear weapons and strengthening the non-proliferation regime of weapons of mass destruction has earned recognition from the international community and consolidated the country’s status as a global peacemaker.
In turn, the Director of the Library, Dimitar Minev, noted that Kazakhstan is rightfully the leader of the world anti-nuclear movement, expressing words of support for the event, and emphasized that the world community is well aware of “the great and wise decision” of Kazakhstan.
The exhibition presents historical photographs taken during the tests at the test site, pictures telling about the national anti-nuclear movement “Nevada – Semipalatinsk”, as well as archival documents testifying to the closure of the Semipalatinsk test site.
The photo exhibition, organized in the building of the National Library “Ivan Vazov” in Plovdiv, will be open until September 8, 2024.
