The US Congress noted the role of Kazakhstan in promoting nuclear disarmament

The Honorable Dina Titus, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Nevada, delivered a Congressional statement on the occasion of the International Day Against Nuclear Testing, observed annually on August 29, DKnews.kz reports.

In her address to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Congresswoman Titus praised Kazakhstan’s significant role in promoting nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. She highlighted the close cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States, which has been a crucial factor in ensuring global security and stability.

She emphasized that Kazakhstan’s historic decision to close the Semipalatinsk test site was a key contribution to strengthening the international non-proliferation regime. Special attention was given to the successful collaboration between Kazakhstan and the United States under the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program, which facilitated the removal and destruction of remaining nuclear materials and technologies.

In conclusion, Representative Titus underscored the importance of ongoing cooperation in the face of renewed nuclear threats and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to continued partnership with Kazakhstan in this critical area.
