Georgia will take part in the VIII Congress of Leaders of World Religions in Astana

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan Met with the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, the Metropolitan of Georgia Shio, DKnews.kz reports.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Georgia Malik Murzalin met with the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal throne (interim Patriarch), Metropolitan Elizbar Mujiri, known in monasticism as Metropolitan Shio.

During the meeting, key issues of interreligious dialogue and Georgia’s participation in the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will be held in September 2025 in Astana, were discussed.

Ambassador Murzalin spoke in detail about the importance of the Congress, which since 2003 has served as an important international platform for discussing issues of peace, tolerance and interfaith harmony. He stressed the importance of the Congress as a forum that brings together leaders of world religions, politicians and scientists working to preserve peace and harmony in a multi-confessional and multi-ethnic society.

Particular attention was paid to Georgia’s participation in the VIII Congress. The Kazakh diplomat noted that Georgia’s high-level participation in the Congress will be an important step in strengthening relations between Kazakhstan and Georgia, as well as in expanding cultural and spiritual ties between the peoples of the two countries. The discussion of issues of peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance within the framework of the Congress contributes to strengthening international stability and mutual respect.

Metropolitan Shio expressed deep interest in the active participation of the Georgian side in the upcoming event, noting the importance of such a forum for the further development of interreligious dialogue and the strengthening of peaceful relations between different cultures and confessions. He stressed that Georgia, as a country with a rich spiritual heritage and centuries-old history of Christianity, is ready to contribute to the expansion and deepening of international cooperation in the field of spirituality and peace.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness for further cooperation and agreed to continue work on organizing Georgia’s participation in the work of the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in 2025.
