Nanning, the capital city of southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is strategically located along the new western land-sea corridor. It is recognized as a vital gateway that bridges China with ASEAN countries. The significance of this location was underscored during the 14th China-ASEAN Expo in 2017, which hosted the first China-Kazakhstan Sub-national Cooperation Forum. This event marked a new phase in regional collaboration, demonstrating Nanning's potential as a hub for multilateral trade and cooperation.
By leveraging the ‘Nanning Channel’ platform, Kazakhstan can further diversify its trade routes and enhance its access to the lucrative and rapidly growing ASEAN markets, thereby expanding its economic footprint beyond Central Asia and Europe.
In 2022, the launch of the first Vietnam-China-Kazakhstan freight train service marked a significant milestone in regional transportation coverage. This initiative illustrates the effectiveness of coordinated logistics and transport infrastructure in connecting disparate regions. The new freight route not only reduces transit times but also lowers transportation costs, making it an economically viable option for businesses looking to expand their reach. China’s new western land-sea corridor boosts international transport capacity and strengthens links among Central Asian countries, China and ASEAN countries. The corridor further integrates with the existing rail networks and creates a more efficient logistics chain. The Central Asian cross-border railway network connects with the rail networks of China and Southeast Asian countries, ensuring smoother and faster transportation of goods across these regions. As a result, Kazakhstan can leverage this enhanced connectivity to further integrate into global supply chains and reach new markets.
Moreover, enhanced connectivity via Nanning Channel offers multifaceted benefits. By improving trade links, all participating countries stand to gain from increased economic activity. Streamlined logistics reduce delays and disruptions, ensuring that supply chains operate smoothly and cost-effectively.
