Tightening of U.S. Immigration Policies: Important Information for Citizens of Kazakhstan, DKnews.kz reports.

In recent years, the United States has implemented significant changes to its immigration policies aimed at strengthening border security and reducing illegal migration. In this context, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the U.S. highlights the measures being taken by American authorities and their potential implications for foreign nationals.

Key Changes in U.S. Immigration Policy

Measures Against Undocumented Migrants

The U.S. government has increased control over foreign nationals residing in the country without legal status. Key aspects of the new policy include:

  • Enforcement Actions: Detention, imprisonment, and deportation with restrictions on re-entry to the United States.
  • Termination of Benefits: Cancellation of social benefits, work permits, and other related privileges.
  • For those without legal grounds to remain in the U.S., the authorities are offering the option to voluntarily leave the country. This measure allows individuals to avoid forced deportation and the resulting restrictions, such as being barred from applying for a U.S. visa in the future.

Reinstatement of the “Remain in Mexico” Policy

Under this policy, migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and applying for asylum in the United States are required to stay in Mexico while their cases are reviewed by U.S. immigration courts.

End of the "Catch and Release" Practice

Previously, migrants detained for crossing the border illegally were often released within the U.S. while awaiting their court hearings. This practice has been discontinued. Migrants in this category will now:

  • Be held in specialized detention centers;
  • Be returned to their countries of origin; or
  • Be sent to third countries, such as Mexico, under the “Remain in Mexico” program.

Restriction on the Use of the CBP One App

The CBP One app, previously used for facilitating entry or parole for individuals who would otherwise be denied entry, is no longer available for these purposes.

Recommendations for Citizens of Kazakhstan

Given these changes, the Embassy strongly encourages Kazakh citizens to comply with U.S. immigration laws and stay informed about updates through official resources, such as:

  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS);
  • U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Before traveling to the U.S., ensure that you have all required documents, including a valid visa, Green Card, or other proof of lawful status.

Emergency Contact Information

In case of emergencies or if you require consular or legal assistance, please contact the following:

  • Embassy of Kazakhstan in Washington, D.C.: +1 202 232 5488 (ext. 127, 109, 121);
  • Consulate General of Kazakhstan in New York: +1 332 207 9632;
  • Consulate General of Kazakhstan in San Francisco: +1 650 741 8894.

The tightening of U.S. immigration policies requires individuals residing in or planning to travel to the United States to strictly adhere to all rules and regulations. Voluntary departure for those without legal status provides an opportunity to avoid forced deportation and its associated consequences, such as entry bans.
