The official inauguration ceremony of the program “Promotion of Wheat Cultivation for Sustainable Development in Central Afghanistan” was held in Pul-i-Alam, the administrative center of Logar Province. Gaziz Akbassov, Charge d’Affaires of Kazakhstan in Afghanistan, participated in the event.

The initiative was organized by the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) with the support of Kazakhstan, Turkiye, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). The project is co-financed by Kazakhstan, IOFS, Turkiye, TIKA, and CICA.

The ceremony was attended by Afghan Deputy Minister of Agriculture S. Azam, Logar Provincial Governor Z. Madani, Deputy Head of the Turkish Embassy in Afghanistan B. Biral, IOFS representative E. Yuksek, and other officials.

As part of the program, farmers in Logar Province received humanitarian aid, including 15 tons of wheat seeds of the Lalmi and Amir varieties, distributed among 300 farmers from the Baraki-Barak, Mohammad Agha, and Pul-i-Alam districts. Additionally, 15 tons of fertilizers and 30 tons of urea were provided to enhance soil fertility.

The Governor of Logar Province expressed his gratitude to Kazakhstan, Turkiye, IOFS, CICA, and TIKA for their support of the Afghan people. He emphasized the urgent need for wheat seeds and other crops, such as beans and lentils, among Afghan farmers.

He also appealed for continued humanitarian assistance, including the provision of wheat seeds, improved irrigation systems, and agricultural equipment to further support Afghanistan’s agricultural sector.

The IOFS was established in 2013 at the initiative of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
