On 1 May 2025, the Astana Ballet Theatre will be presenting the choreographic divertissement “Eastern Rhapsody” on its stage, which is sure to be a celebration of dance and culture, DKnews.kz reports.
This unique concert will combine folk dances and melodies from various Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, China, India, Turkey and Japan, creating a beautiful display that reflects the richness and diversity of eastern cultures.
Each dance miniature in the program will be more than just a visually appealing performance; it will be a genuine narrative about the people, their spirit, philosophy and traditions. First, Japanese modesty will be replaced by Turkish passion. Consequently, Chinese poetry will manifest itself in the choreography, and subsequently, eastern temptation, replete with the aromas of India, will be presented. Ultimately, a return will be made to our native Kazakh steppe. All these elements will create a unique cultural kaleidoscope.
The concert will pay tribute to the memory of the first performance of the Astana Ballet troupe in 2013, which was also entitled Eastern Rhapsody. Years later, the theatre will return to this topic with a new scale and depth, demonstrating the high level of skill accumulated through creative collaboration with outstanding Kazakhstani and foreign choreographers, composers and artists.
The vibrant set design, stylish costumes, powerful ethnomusicology, and most importantly, the charismatic performance of the ballet dancers will make this evening unforgettable. “Eastern Rhapsody” will become a symbol of multinational Kazakhstan, where culture does not divide, but unites. The event will serve as a celebration of the diversity and unity of nations, wherein every voice will resonate freely, yet in harmony with the collective.
Through dance and music, the theatre will demonstrate the power and beauty of our country’s cultural diversity, asserting that art knows no borders. “Eastern Rhapsody” is going to be a really important statement that culture, respect and unity are the foundation of our society. Events like this are great at strengthening ties and creating a future based on mutual understanding and peace.
The performance will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
