From 10 to 18 May, the Astana Ballet Theatre’s tour was performed at the Almaty Theatre, which was one of the main cultural events of the spring in Almaty, DKnews.kz reports.

The capital team presented a program of considerable richness and diversity, which organically intertwined classical and modern elements, folk traditions and innovative ballet language.

The tour commenced with shows on the 10th and 11th of May of a work entitled Blind Forgiveness, a rock ballet which provoked a lively response from members of the audience. The choreographer Kirill Radev has created a stage work characterised by its vividness, in which neoclassical plasticity is combined with modern drama and theatrical monologue. The musical accompaniment, composed by Arseni Smirnov, endowed the production with a distinctive emotional profundity.

On 13 May, an evening of symphonic music was held, featuring the orchestra of the Astana Ballet Theatre and the internationally renowned violinist Erzhan Kulibaev. The program featured two cycles of the Seasons, one by Antonio Vivaldi and the other by Astor Piazzolla, whose contrasting interpretations revealed the entire palette of feelings masterfully conveyed by the soloist. This performance proved to be of significant benefit to enthusiasts of classical music.

On 15 and 16 May, the audience in Almaty had the privilege of once again being privy to the immortal classic ballet “The Legend of Love”, a masterpiece in the repertoire of Yuri Grigorovich. The performance under scrutiny herein combined the philosophical depth of Nazim Hikmet’s libretto, Arif Melikov’s soulful music and Simon Virsaladze’s exquisite set design, leaving an unforgettable impression with its emotional intensity and scale.

The tour concluded on 18 May with the national divertissement “The Heritage of the Great Steppe”, directed by Aigul Tati, Honoured Figure of Kazakhstan. This vibrant performance emerged as a notable pinnacle of the tour, profoundly resonating with the audience through its cultural resonances with the Kazakh people, articulated through the medium of ballet.

The tour of the Astana Ballet Theatre in Almaty was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
