Central Asian diplomats studied Kazakhstan's experience in managing transboundary waters

KazAID conducted training for diplomats from Central Asia, DKnews.kz reports.

Within the framework of the programme “Dostyk: Diplomacy” a seminar “Transboundary Waters – Driver of Sustainable Development” was held for representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The seminar was organised by the Kazakhstan Agency of International Development “KazAID” under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The programme was intended for public servants from the ministries of foreign affairs and other line ministries involved in the formation and implementation of their countries’ policies in the field of transboundary water management. This programme was launched by KazAID in 2024.

In the period from May 27 to 28, 2025, 10 representatives from Central Asia participated in the training aimed at strengthening regional cooperation on transboundary water resources management for sustainable development.

The programme addressed the role of water resources in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, exchange of experience in implementing water resources management projects, intergovernmental cooperation on the Aral Sea basin development, financing of CA water sector by IFIs.  The speakers were representatives of KOICA, Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development and International Water Management Institute.

The seminar was implemented for the participants on a non-refundable basis thanks to KazAID grant and was accompanied by a cultural programme in Astana.
