On the evening of June 5, at the request of the American side, President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, DKnews.kz reports.

President Xi stated: “Steering the ship of China-U.S. relations in the right direction requires firm hands at the helm and a clear course. Most importantly, we must overcome all sorts of interference and even sabotage — this is absolutely essential. Just recently, at the initiative of the U.S., China and the United States held economic and trade talks in Geneva. This marked a significant step toward resolving issues through dialogue and consultation. The talks were positively received not only by the public in both countries but also by the broader international community, reinforcing the idea that dialogue and cooperation are irreplaceable.”

Xi emphasized that both sides must make full use of the existing mechanisms for trade and economic consultations, striving for mutually beneficial outcomes based on equality and respect for each other's concerns. “China approaches these talks with sincerity, but also within the bounds of our principles. We honor our word and follow through on our commitments. When a consensus is reached, both sides must uphold it. Since the talks in Geneva, China has taken concrete steps to implement the agreements in good faith. The U.S. should also realistically assess the progress made and remove its negative measures against China,” he said.

He further called for enhanced exchanges in areas such as diplomacy, economy and trade, military, and law enforcement — to build mutual understanding, reduce misperceptions, and deepen cooperation.

Xi stressed that the United States should approach the Taiwan issue with prudence. “It is unacceptable for a handful of pro-independence separatists to push China and the U.S. to the brink of conflict and confrontation,” he warned.

President Trump expressed deep respect for President Xi and highlighted the importance of U.S.-China relations. He said the United States welcomes China’s steady and robust economic growth, and believes the two countries have great potential for cooperation. The U.S. remains committed to the One-China policy. Trump described the recent economic and trade talks in Geneva as a great success, noting that Washington is ready to work with Beijing to implement the outcomes. He also said the U.S. welcomes Chinese students coming to study in America.

President Xi said he would be pleased to host President Trump in China again. Trump expressed sincere appreciation. Both sides agreed that their teams would continue implementing the Geneva agreements and aim to hold the next round of talks as soon as possible.
