This year, 1,695 young and talented individuals began their journey into the professional world — among them, 58 international students who chose NU as a launchpad for successful careers, DKnews.kz reports.

The graduates represent a new generation of leaders: 1,098 bachelor's, 508 master’s, 62 PhDs, and 27 Doctors of Medicine. The School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, along with the School of Sciences and Humanities, accounted for the largest number of graduates, together producing more than one-third of this year’s professionals. These are brilliant computer scientists, robotics experts, engineers, economists, linguists, and mathematicians.

Over the past 15 years, NU has produced 12,000 professionals who are now in demand both in Kazakhstan and abroad. The university’s graduate employment rate stands at an impressive 98%, meaning that nearly every graduate goes on to build a career in some of the most dynamic and influential companies around the world.

This year, 149 residents and Doctors of Medicine completed their medical education, ready to save lives and advance healthcare. An additional 244 graduates earned master's and doctoral degrees from the Graduate School of Education, the Graduate School of Public Policy, and the Graduate School of Business — institutions that shape future leaders and reformers.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yermek Kosherbayev, delivered an inspiring address to the newly graduated students. In his heartfelt remarks, he warmly wished them success and good fortune as they embark on the next chapter of their lives, expressing sincere confidence in their potential and bright future. In a formal ceremony, Yermek Kosherbayev personally presented diplomas to the top graduates who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement in their respective schools.

The conferral of degrees was a moment of pride, as graduates came together with their families, classmates, and professors to celebrate the completion of their academic journey and the beginning of their professional lives. The event was also attended by members of Parliament, representatives of ministries and embassies, employers, and members of the University’s Board of Trustees.

NU President Professor Waqar Ahmad addressed the audience with the following message:

“This year marks the 15th anniversary of Nazarbayev University. As Central Asia’s premier research university, we remain determined to grow, enhance our global standing, and strengthen our academic reputation. In the coming years, we will focus on driving innovation, expanding collaboration with industry, attracting philanthropic support, and welcoming students from both Kazakhstan and around the world. Our alumni are already making a global impact and contributing to the university’s continued development. Dear graduates of 2025 — set ambitious goals, take pride in yourselves, your university, and your country. We wish you success and encourage you to stay connected with us”

Also present at the ceremony was NU’s former Provost Dr. Ilesanmi Adesida who played a pivotal role in the university’s development from its earliest days. Last year, after NU had firmly established itself as a mature and stable institution, Dr. Adesida retired to devote more time to his family.

“Nazarbayev University was fortunate to have Ade serve as Provost. He transformed our academic and research landscape in significant ways. Much of this important work took place behind the scenes — for instance, he established our postdoctoral program, launched the core curriculum, and played a key role in the creation of our interdisciplinary shared laboratories — one of which now bears his name. His efforts significantly enhanced our research capacity, both nationally and internationally. Thanks to the foundational work under his leadership, we began to move up in the Times Higher Education rankings” Noted Acting Provost and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Loretta O’Donnell

In recognition of his inspiring leadership, unwavering commitment to integrity, and adherence to the highest international standards, the NU Managing Board and Faculty Senate officially awarded Dr. Ilesanmi Adesida the honorary degree (Honoris Causa) and the title of Emeritus Professor. Professor Michael Lewis and President Waqar Ahmad presented the diploma and congratulated Dr. Adesida on this well-deserved honor.
