In anticipation of one of Kazakhstan’s most culturally significant holidays, Dombyra Day, video platform TikTok is launching a campaign dedicated to the country’s most iconic musical symbol. Users can look forward to live performances by talented dombyra players, and under the hashtag #домбыракүні, Kazakhstani creators are encouraged to share videos of their own performances on this traditional national instrument, DKnews.kz reports.

Every first Sunday of July, Kazakhstan celebrates Dombyra Day — a holiday honoring the national musical instrument that has, for centuries, accompanied the nomadic lifestyle, poetry, oral traditions, and spiritual heritage of the Kazakh people. This year, the celebration falls on July 6, but thanks to TikTok, users can begin enjoying the sounds of one of the most ancient instruments of the Kazakh people ahead of the weekend.

To mark the occasion, TikTok has launched a dedicated in-app page. On Friday, July 4, the official TikTok LIVE account @tiktoklive_eecca will host a special online concert for Dombyra Day. The livestream will feature traditional kyuis, original compositions, and surprising musical covers.

By following the hashtag #домбыракүні, users can discover even more talented dombyra players and share their own videos featuring the instrument’s unique sound.

The dombyra is more than just a musical instrument. For centuries, it has served as a vessel for emotional expression, a means of preserving oral traditions, and a reflection of the Kazakh soul — which is why it has become a national cultural treasure. Today, its melodies are heard everywhere — on concert stages, at celebrations, in homes, and on TikTok, where it continues to inspire creativity and cultural revival.

TikTok creators are helping the dombyra gain global recognition by reinterpreting it in new and imaginative ways — turning it into a modern symbol of Kazakh identity and artistic expression.
