Kazakhstan and Japan expand economic partnership

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Japan Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev held a meeting with Chairperson of the Parliamentary League for Economic Diplomacy, Member of the Japanese Parliament Yoko Kamikawa. The parties discussed the prospects for expanding bilateral economic partnership in the context of the transformation of the international trade system, DKnews.kz reports.

Ambassador Baudarbek-Kozhatayev highlighted the positive dynamics of investment cooperation, noting that since 2005, the gross inflow of Japanese investment into Kazakhstan’s economy has exceeded 8.1 billion US dollars.

The parties discussed opportunities to develop cooperation in such areas as digitalisation and artificial intelligence, green economy and decarbonisation, water technologies, transit and logistics cooperation through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

Yoko Kamikawa, as a former Minister of Justice of Japan, emphasized the importance of establishing legal frameworks to deepen economic cooperation. She also stressed the significance of enhancing interregional economic interaction between the private sectors of both countries, including small and medium-sized enterprises.

During the meeting, Chairperson Kamikawa recalled the substantive talks she had with Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu in September 2023 on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly while she was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Following the meeting, it was agreed to continue regular contacts and strengthen mechanisms to promote economic diplomacy between Kazakhstan and Japan.
