Kazakhstan’s Environmental Agenda Receives Support from the UN

The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Kenya, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office in Nairobi Barlybay Sadykov held a meeting with the Secretary of the Governing Bodies and Director of the Governance Affairs Office of Management of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Radhika Ochalik, DKnews.kz reports.

The parties discussed current issues of interaction between Kazakhstan and UNEP, plans for developing cooperation in the field of the environment, as well as issues of participation of the Kazakh delegation in the upcoming events of the Organization.

Particular attention was paid to preparations for the Regional Environmental Summit, which is planned to be held in Astana in 2026, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In addition, issues related to the participation of the delegation of Kazakhstan in the 7th session of the UN Environment Assembly, which will be held on 8-12 December, 2025 in Nairobi, were discussed. The main theme of the Assembly session is “Advancing sustainable solutions for a sustainable planet”.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation on issues of mutual interest in the field of the environment, expressed their readiness to consider further joint measures to expand Kazakhstan’s cooperation with the UN Environment Programme.

It sets the global environmental agenda, provides comprehensive political leadership and defines policy responses to emerging environmental challenges.
