On August 16, the Green Mobility Week was officially launched on Panfilov Street in Almaty. The event brought together representatives of the city akimat and the Almaly district administration, the Consulate General of China, Yutong company, as well as residents and guests of the city.

The street was transformed into a green space filled with workshops, games, and interactive zones, DKNews.kz reports.

“Clear waters and green mountains are priceless treasures”

The Consul General of China in Almaty, Ms. Jiang Wei, delivered a welcome address.

She emphasized that the environmental agenda has become an important part of bilateral cooperation:

“China and Kazakhstan are good neighbors, reliable partners, and long-standing friends. Our countries are bound by a strong friendship and a shared vision for sustainable development. President Xi Jinping once said: ‘Clear waters and green mountains are priceless treasures.’ Today, by supporting the ‘Clean Kazakhstan’ initiative, we are building a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful future together.”

Almaly district steps forward

Deputy Akim of the Almaly district Ruslan Idrisov stressed that environmental protection begins with the simple actions of every resident:

“Events like the Green Mobility Week help involve citizens in real change. Ecology is not an abstract word, but concrete action. And today we are making another step forward.”

Yutong sets the example

Li Haifeng, Regional Director of Yutong in Central Asia, spoke about the company’s contribution to the city’s development:

“Green is the foundation of urban growth, and a low-carbon approach is the direction of future transport. Our dual-powered trolleybuses, already running on Almaty’s streets, have reduced emissions and made travel safer and more comfortable. In the future, we will continue to work with the akimat and our partners to introduce electric buses and smart transport solutions.”

Ecology as part of the national agenda

Deputy Head of the Department of Ecology of Almaty, Madiyar Kozhekenov, linked the project with Kazakhstan’s national program:

“Last year, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev launched the ‘Clean Kazakhstan’ initiative. It received broad support among the population. Today, every resident contributes to environmental responsibility, and the Green Mobility Week is yet another step in this direction.”

Citizens choose the green way

The opening ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting and a series of interactive activities. Residents tried out the “bicycle shredder,” children took part in workshops on plastic recycling, and adults experienced VR simulations of future low-carbon cities.

The week has only just begun, and ahead are dozens of events dedicated to ecology and green transport. As was said at the ceremony: “Let today become a new starting point, when green mobility becomes part of our everyday life.”
