In Montreal, Canada, by decision of the heads of state delegations, Mauricio Ramírez Koppel, Permanent Representative of Colombia to ICAO, was appointed Chairman of the Administrative Commission. The Vice-Chairman positions were assigned to Musayeroh Barrie, Director General of Civil Aviation of Sierra Leone; Angshumali Rastogi, Representative of India on the ICAO Council; and Saltanat Tompiyeva, Chair of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For the first time, this post is occupied by a representative of Central Asian, DKNews.kz reports.

The opening meetings of the Administrative Commission took place with the participation of ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar.

The Commission reviewed the three-year budget, financial matters, the appointment of an external auditor, as well as issues of human resource management, gender equality, and others.

ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano noted that the proposed budget strengthens the Organization's long-term sustainability and enables the implementation of priority initiatives aimed at the safe and sustainable development of international aviation.

Kazakhstan submitted two documents addressing gender equality in aviation.

Saltanat Tompiyeva presented the initiative to establish an official ICAO Assembly nomination titled “Women Shaping Aviation.”

The award would be presented to three professionals at each Assembly session and be accompanied by a certificate of recognition.

Nominees would represent fields such as air navigation, safety oversight, aviation medicine, engineering, operations, and others.

Importantly, the initiative does not require financial expenditures from the Organization and is intended to motivate professionals and inspire the next generation to pursue careers in aviation.

Kazakhstan’s initiative has received preliminary support from China, Canada, South Africa, Peru, the Republic of Korea, Japan, as well as from international organizations including ACI and IFALPA, among others.

Mauricio Ramírez Koppel stated that the Commission welcomes the proposal to establish the nomination.

The representative of France proposed that the Commission consider a methodology for determining nominees within the ICAO Council.

The final resolutions of the Commission will be adopted on September 29.
