As part of the 42nd ICAO Assembly, Chair of the Civil aviation committee of the Ministry of transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Saltanat Tompiyeva, met with Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Transport, Mr. Lau Peet Meng, DKNews.kz reports.

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Kazakhstan and Singapore on cooperation in transport accident investigations. The agreement was concluded with the participation of Singapore’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB), and on the Kazakh side, it was signed by the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to ICAO, Timur Tlegenov.

The MoU provides for cooperation between the competent authorities of both countries in investigating incidents involving air, rail, and maritime transport. Particular attention is given to personnel training, as well as the exchange of information and experience in the field of accident investigation.

Both parties noted that the existing legal framework and the open skies regime between Kazakhstan and Singapore create favorable conditions for further development of civil aviation cooperation.

“Our airlines are considering the possibility of launching direct flights. We would be pleased to welcome Singaporean carriers to take advantage of the open skies regime,” said Ms. Saltanat Tompiyeva.

She also expressed gratitude for the training programs provided to Kazakh aviation specialists.

In response, Mr. Lau Peet Meng noted that there are many areas for cooperation between the two countries:

“The Memorandum of Understanding is the first step towards collaboration in accident and incident investigation and the exchange of best practices. Moving forward, we will expand to other areas of cooperation as well.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ms. Tompiyeva emphasized that Kazakhstan is committed to developing a modern investigation system that aligns with ICAO standards, and that partnership with Singapore will be an important step in this direction.
