On 17 and 18 October, the premiere of the two-act ballet “Two Carpets”, a grandiose artistic canvas based on the ancient Azerbaijani legend of the Shirvan carpet, will take place on the stage of the Astana Ballet Theatre, DKNews.kz reports.
This story immerses viewers in a world where carpet patterns tell the story of life, with each thread preserving fate and emotion. Love lies at the heart of the story. It began in childhood and has endured despite life’s challenges, including war and separation. Over time and across distances, through trials of pain and hope, the characters find each other again. The carpet, which has endured all these hardships alongside them, becomes a symbol of their loyalty.
The female soul is portrayed with such depth that it is the special highlight of the performance. The ballet unveils the heroine’s inner world, depicting her struggle to choose between personal happiness and sacrifice for the sake of a loved one. This is a story about how fortitude and loyalty can overcome the most difficult trials of fate.
Valery Kopeikin is the author of the libretto and the ideological inspirer of the project. Alexander Mogilev directed and choreographed the production, managing to embody the epic narrative in an exquisite visual language. Composer Arseni Smirnov created the musical score especially for this ballet. Anastasia Kapustina created the artistic concept for the performance, while Igor Chapurin designed the costumes and Alexandra Artamonova developed the digital graphics and animations.
The Astana Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra will perform the music live, conducted by Chief Conductor Arman Urazgaliyev. The performance is transformed into a genuine synthesis of the arts by the combination of the power of orchestral sound and the visual of dance.
The theatre’s artistic director, Nurlan Kanetov, noted: “The special value of this project lies in the fact that it is the result of two strong creative teams coming together: the international MOSAIC DEL ARTE company and the Astana Ballet Theatre. Our collaboration continues apace, and we are proud that last year we presented to the audience the rock ballet “Blind Forgiveness”, which was successfully performed on the stages of Athens, Astana and Almaty, receiving high critical acclaim and sincere applause from the audience. Today’s premiere represents a new phase in our collaborative creative endeavour.”
The ballet Two Carpets is not just a stage story; it is an epic narrative that connects the East and the West, tradition and modernity, and the eternal themes of love and the boundless power of human memory.
