In Astana, the results of the literary contest “Abai Readings 2025” have been announced

The Presidential Center of the DPA RK announced the winners of the 9th Abai Readings literary contest, held in honor of the 180th anniversary of the renowned Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbaev, DKNews.kz reports.

"Abai is an outstanding figure in Kazakh literature. Each of his poems is a deep revelation that reaches the heart, and his words of wisdom are a source of enlightenment. Even 180 years later, Abai’s name remains alive and resonates anew in the hearts of each generation, becoming a bright spiritual guide. Therefore, I am convinced: to know Abai means to understand oneself, and to comprehend his work means to aspire to lofty ideals," noted Bakytzhan Temirbolat, Director of the Presidential Center.

Approximately 400 participants from Kazakhstan and several other countries, representing diverse ages, professions, and nationalities, took part in the contest, united by a shared appreciation for Abai’s literary contributions.

Notably, the oldest participant this year was Lyubov Martynovna Shkurko, a 96-year-old World War II veteran residing in Astana.

"I love poetry with all my heart. I especially feel a strong connection to Abai’s verses. Each time I read them, I dive into deep contemplation. Every word of his is truth drawn from life itself. His works are like a mirror of the human soul and morality. That is why his poetry remains relevant and continues to touch every heart," she shared her reflections on the work of the Kazakh poet and thinker.
"The priceless legacy of Abai Kunanbaev and his works, passed down through generations, has had a tremendous impact on shaping the national consciousness of the Kazakh people. His literary heritage is not only the pride of Kazakhstan but of the entire Turkic world," emphasized Latifa Mamedova, Director of the Centralized Library System of the Yasamal District of Baku and a member of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, who prepared several contestants from Azerbaijan.

The annual Abai Readings literary contest recognized outstanding participants in several categories:

  • "Veteran of Poetic Expression" – Lyubov Shkurko
  • "Bright Embodiment of Talent" – Meirim Balmukhanova
  • "In the World of Abai’s Word" – Amina Abdullayeva
  • "Most Artistic" – Tansu Zhumash
  • "Poetic Dedication" – Ainagul Sabitova
  • "Emerging Talent" – Daryn Sarsekeyev
  • "For Active Civic Stance and Creative Inspiration" – Kabdrashit Zhapanov

Contest winners:

  • 1st place: Mukhammedali Ospanov
  • 2nd place: Nurlan Magzhan, Nuray Guseinova, Shakhruza Anarmetova
  • 3rd place: Fuad Guseynzade, Alima Baibulatova, Milana Zholova

All winners and nominees are to be awarded special diplomas and commemorative gifts.

The Abai Readings continue to serve as a significant platform for preserving and promoting the literary heritage of Abai Kunanbaev, fostering connections among creative youth and established literary figures across generations.
