Astana Motors Received an Award for Contribution to Production Localization at KGIR 2025, DKNews.kz reports.

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held an awards ceremony as part of the 8th Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable (KGIR 2025), which concluded in Astana.

Astana Motors received the award “For Contribution to Production Localization.”

“Our goal is to create a full-cycle automotive industry, including the production of components. To achieve this, we are building automotive plants with a high degree of small-unit assembly, and in the Almaty Industrial Zone, we have launched a technopark for the production of auto components — multimedia systems and car seats. We began this journey in 2011 by launching a plant in Almaty for the production of buses and commercial vehicles. In 2020, we built, and in 2023–2024 we modernized and robotized, the Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan plant with an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. This year, we launched the multi-brand plant Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan with a capacity of 120,000 vehicles per year. Today, it is the largest enterprise in terms of small-unit assembly,” commented Astana Motors CEO Beknur Nesipbayev after receiving the award.

Localization of production creates long-term value for Kazakhstan’s economy. For Astana Motors, it represents a step toward forming a complete industrial ecosystem, reducing dependence on imports, logistics costs, and currency fluctuations — all of which make products more affordable. Kazakhstanis have already felt the impact: the Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan plant has released its first batch of vehicles, which allowed prices for locally produced Chery, Changan, and Haval models to be reduced by an average of 7–15% starting from September 16.

Localization helps create jobs, develop engineering expertise, and stimulate the emergence of related industries — from the production of auto components to service industries. This is a direct contribution to the development of the non-resource sector of the economy and GDP growth through added value created within the country. For foreign partners, localization also offers strategic advantages: Kazakhstan becomes a manufacturing hub with a favorable geographic location, access to Eurasian markets, and a stable business environment.

“That is why localization is our deliberate choice in favor of sustainable industrial development,” concluded Astana Motors CEO Beknur Nesipbayev.

It should be noted that KGIR is a key investment event of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held annually since 2017 under the leadership of the country’s Prime Minister. The event has established itself as an effective platform for dialogue between the government and the international investment community, bringing together business leaders, government officials, international organizations, and development institutions on one stage.

In 2025, KGIR was held for the eighth time and gathered more than 700 participants from 40 countries — representatives of government, business, investment funds, international organizations, and media.

The main theme of KGIR 2025 was “New Solutions in an Era of Transformation: Kazakhstan as a Center for Sustainable Economic Development.” Participants discussed global challenges and investment opportunities, Kazakhstan’s role in shaping the sustainable economies of the future, and the development of infrastructure, industry, energy, technology, and the green economy.
