The Kazakh language is steadily crossing borders and attracting students from around the world, DKNews.kz reports.
The Embassy of Kazakhstan in China organized the third international contest in Kazakh language proficiency at the Kazakhstan Cultural Center in Beijing.

Who took part
Participants included:
- students of Beijing University of Language and Culture
- students of Dalian University of Foreign Languages
- learners from South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Russia and China
- as well as Chinese citizens interested in Kazakh
Guests included academics, Kazakh media representatives and students from Kazakhstan.

“Language is a bridge”
With welcoming remarks, Counselor of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in China Askar Shalkarbayev addressed the participants.
From the Chinese side, speeches were delivered by:
- Sun Fan, head of the Kazakhstan Studies Center at Beijing Foreign Studies University
- Lou Yihua, lecturer at Dalian University of Foreign Languages.
The main message: language is not only grammar, but a living bridge between cultures.

How the contest was held
The program featured:
- introductions
- Q&A
- intellectual challenges
- creative performances
Participants recited poems, talked about Kazakhstan, sang songs and shared why they chose to learn Kazakh.

At the end, winners and contestants received certificates and souvenirs.
Why it matters
The contest became another contribution to promoting the Kazakh language abroad and strengthening humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and China.
It also showed growing interest in the language and culture from students in Asia and beyond.
For reference: the first two contests were held in 2023 and 2024 at Beijing and Xi’an universities of foreign languages.
