Guangzhou hosted a meeting of heads of foreign consular missions accredited in the city, with Valikhan Sarsembekov, Consul General of Kazakhstan, taking part, DKNews.kz reports.
The event brought together Guangzhou Mayor Sun Zhiyang, representatives of the consular corps and diplomats from 65 countries. The discussion focused not on protocol, but on practical cooperation and future projects.
Guangzhou aims to strengthen its global role
In his address, Mayor Sun emphasized the city’s commitment to openness and development, highlighting four strategic priorities:
- an international trade and business center
- a national base for advanced manufacturing
- an important pillar of the international innovation hub
- a major transport and logistics hub
Guangzhou is clearly positioning itself as one of the key engines of the global economy.
Consulates as bridges between countries
Sun Zhiyang stressed that Guangzhou highly values its partnership with foreign consulates and is ready to share opportunities arising from the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area.
He underlined the role of consulates in:
- strengthening people-to-people ties
- expanding trade and economic cooperation
- promoting mutually beneficial projects
Kazakhstan and Guangzhou deepen dialogue
On the sidelines of the event, Mayor Sun met with Consul General Valikhan Sarsembekov.
They discussed:
- the current state of cooperation
- prospects for joint projects
- preparations for the opening of Kazakhstan’s Consulate General in Guangzhou
The official opening is planned for early 2026 and is expected to boost business, tourism, education and cultural exchanges.
