KazMunayGas (KMG) and China’s CITIC Construction Co., Ltd have signed an agreement outlining the basic principles of cooperation on the construction of the Karachaganak Gas Processing Plant, DKNews.kz reports.
The document confirms the parties’ readiness to move forward together and sets the main framework for developing and implementing the project.

What the agreement covers
Under the agreement, the parties will work on:
- preliminary assessment of project costs
- defining the composition and configuration of equipment
- shaping formats and mechanisms of cooperation
In addition, KMG and CITIC Construction agreed to:
- move to the development of project documentation (FEED)
- search for the most efficient technical solutions
- refine organizational approaches to the project

In practical terms, the project is shifting from discussion to preparation and design.

Why this matters
Karachaganak is one of Kazakhstan’s largest fields. Building a new gas processing plant will:
- increase the share of gas processed inside the country
- create more value-added products
- support new jobs and expertise
- strengthen energy and industrial security
International cooperation also opens access to advanced technologies and project management experience.
