Portugal is ready to step up cooperation with Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Portugal, Zhan Galiev, held a meeting with José Cesário, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities Abroad in the Assembly of the Republic. The discussion focused on reforms underway in Kazakhstan and new opportunities for partnership between the two countries, DKNews.kz reports.

The Kazakh diplomat spoke about the modernization initiatives launched by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. According to him, these reforms are aimed at strengthening state institutions, developing the economy, and creating better conditions for both businesses and citizens.

The two sides discussed areas that could become key drivers of Kazakhstan-Portugal cooperation, including:

  • agriculture and agri-industry,
  • tourism and sports,
  • transport and logistics,
  • digital technologies and artificial intelligence,
  • water resource management,
  • education and humanitarian projects.

Zhan Galiev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to intensify inter-parliamentary dialogue and expand contacts between lawmakers.

José Cesário, for his part, expressed strong interest in the changes taking place in Kazakhstan and emphasized the importance of bringing the peoples of the two countries closer together, including through cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue working on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, relying on the potential of parliamentary diplomacy. José Cesário also declared his readiness to visit Kazakhstan in the near future, heading a delegation of deputies from the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal.
