Kazakhstan’s Consul General in Shanghai Nurlan Akkoshkarov has held a meeting with Kazakh students studying at universities across the consular district of the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Shanghai. The discussion focused on national priorities, ongoing reforms and the growing role of young professionals educated in China, DKNews.kz reports.

National reforms and Kazakhstan–China cooperation

During the meeting, the Consul General briefed students on the key directions of Kazakhstan’s domestic and foreign policy, as well as the current social and economic reforms being implemented on the initiative of the country’s leadership. Particular attention was paid to the priorities of Kazakhstan–China bilateral cooperation at the present stage.

Akkoshkarov подчеркнул, что Казахстан вступил в период глубоких преобразований, и именно молодые специалисты с международным образованием и знанием иностранных языков будут играть важную роль в этих процессах.

Protecting citizens’ rights abroad

A separate part of the discussion was devoted to practical issues faced by Kazakh citizens abroad. These included the protection of legal rights and interests, consular registration, compliance with migration regulations, and adherence to the rules governing foreign students in the People’s Republic of China.

Students were reminded of the importance of staying in contact with the Consulate and observing local laws, which is essential both for personal security and for maintaining a positive image of Kazakhstan abroad.

Student life and community initiatives

The meeting featured an open exchange of views on issues relevant to the Kazakh student community, including study conditions, accommodation, participation in cultural, humanitarian and social initiatives, and opportunities for closer cooperation with the Consulate General.

Students shared their experiences of living and studying in China and discussed ways to strengthen ties within the Kazakh student community in Shanghai.

New leadership for the student association

Issues related to the organizational development of the Kazakh student community in Shanghai were also addressed. In particular, participants discussed the formation of governing bodies of the Kazakhstan Student Association in Shanghai (KSAS).

Following the discussion and vote, Dariya Mashynbay was elected President of KSAS. The role of the association in coordinating student activities, maintaining interaction with the Consulate General, and organizing cultural, educational and social events was highlighted.

Education, language skills and career prospects

Akkoshkarov emphasized the importance of obtaining a high-quality education and strictly observing the laws of the host country. He noted that specialists with proficiency in the Chinese language and experience of studying in China are in particularly high demand.

He also encouraged students to closely follow developments in Kazakhstan initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, pointing out that the Head of State pays special attention to youth policy and has deep knowledge of China.

In this context, students’ attention was drawn to the President’s extensive interview titled “Kazakhstan Has Entered a New Stage of Modernization”, published in the Turkistan newspaper on January 5, 2026.

A call for active citizenship

Concluding the meeting, the Consul General urged students to maintain an active civic position, strengthen connections within the Kazakh student community, and contribute to building a positive image of the Republic of Kazakhstan abroad.

The Shanghai meeting became not only a platform for information exchange, but also a reminder that Kazakhstan sees its students overseas as an important part of the country’s future human capital and international engagement.
