A working meeting was held between Ambassador Erlan Ali and Florin Barbu, Romania’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, focusing on strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Romania in the agricultural sector, DKNews.kz reports.

During the talks, the two sides discussed the current state of bilateral cooperation and outlined prospects for further development, with a particular emphasis on expanding mutual trade in agricultural products.

Sunflower oil imports grow fivefold

One of the key topics of the meeting was the sharp increase in sunflower oil imports from Romania to Kazakhstan. According to the participants, the volume of supplies has grown fivefold over the recent period, highlighting the strong demand for Romanian products and their growing presence on the Kazakh market.

This trend was described as a clear indicator of the high potential for further growth in agricultural trade between the two countries.

Focus on trade, business ties, and joint projects

The sides confirmed their mutual interest in deepening trade and economic cooperation, developing direct contacts between government agencies and business communities, and launching joint projects in the field of agricultural processing.

Both Kazakhstan and Romania see cooperation in value-added processing as an important step toward building more sustainable and long-term partnerships in the agri-food sector.

Planned visit to Kazakhstan

During the meeting, Minister Florin Barbu expressed his intention to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan in June–July this year. The planned visit is expected to include negotiations with Kazakh counterparts and detailed discussions on specific areas of future cooperation.

Constructive dialogue continues

Concluding the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining a constructive and results-oriented dialogue. They also noted the high level of bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Romania and expressed confidence that cooperation in agriculture will continue to expand in the coming years.
