The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Arab Emirates, Rashid Zhumabek, met with Abdalla Majid Al Ali, Director General of the UAE National Library and Archives, to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, DKNews.kz reports.

The meeting highlighted the growing interest of both countries in preserving historical heritage and using modern technologies to make it accessible to wider audiences.

Libraries and Archives as a Bridge Between Cultures

During the talks, the Kazakh diplomat emphasized the importance of revitalizing cooperation between the libraries and archives of Kazakhstan and the UAE, stressing the need for the effective implementation of agreements reached earlier.

Both sides agreed that cooperation in the archival and library fields can play a key role in strengthening cultural dialogue and mutual understanding between the two nations.

Cultural Corners, Manuscripts, and Translations

The discussion also focused on the possibility of joint cultural initiatives. The Emirati side expressed readiness to launch several collaborative projects, including:

  • the creation of cultural and literary corners dedicated to Kazakhstan and the UAE in libraries of both countries,
  • digitization of ancient manuscripts and books related to Islam preserved in national archives,
  • and the translation of selected publications on politics, economics, literature, and traditions into Arabic and Kazakh.

These initiatives are expected to contribute to academic cooperation and promote access to valuable historical and cultural materials.

Invitation to Astana

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Zhumabek presented an official invitation to Abdalla Majid Al Ali to attend the 3rd International Congress of Archivists “Digital Archive EXPO”, scheduled to take place in Astana from June 8 to 12, 2026.

The Director General confirmed his personal participation in the event, underlining the UAE’s strong interest in international cooperation on archival development and digital transformation.

Looking Ahead

Experts note that Kazakhstan–UAE cooperation in the field of archives and libraries reflects a broader global trend toward digital preservation of cultural heritage and adds a strong humanitarian dimension to bilateral relations.
