Kazakhstan is taking further steps to deepen practical ties and cultural and humanitarian cooperation with China’s Shaanxi Province. As part of this effort, Zhoyshyhan Kyraubayev, Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Xi’an, held a meeting with Yang Changlin, Vice President of the Chinese Wrestling Federation and Head of the Shaanxi Weightlifting, Wrestling and Judo Center, DKNews.kz reports.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of sports. The Consul General highlighted the long-standing partnership between Kazakhstan and Shaanxi Province, noting the importance of joint training camps, professional exchanges, and cooperation between athletes and coaches from both countries.

Focus on youth and national sports development
Special attention was given to Kazakhstan’s state policy under President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aimed at supporting youth development and raising the overall level of national sports. The Kazakh side noted that the country is consistently expanding a network of specialized sports complexes for talented children, creating strong foundations for the long-term development of elite sports.
These reforms, it was emphasized, are designed to strengthen Kazakhstan’s sports reserve and ensure the preparation of internationally competitive athletes capable of achieving success on the global stage.

High potential for Kazakhstan–China sports cooperation
Yang Changlin, in turn, underscored the strong potential of Kazakhstan–China cooperation in sports. He proudly spoke about the achievements of athletes trained at the Shaanxi center, many of whom have won medals at major international tournaments and the Olympic Games.
He also acknowledged the impressive international achievements of Kazakh athletes in various sports and expressed clear interest in organizing joint training programs, expanding exchanges, and developing new mutually beneficial areas of sports cooperation.

Friendly tournament to become a tradition
The meeting also recalled that in 2025 Xi’an hosted its first friendly freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling tournament titled “Top Wrestlers of Central Asia and China”, which included participation by Kazakh athletes.
In this context, the Chinese side expressed readiness to continue this tradition and proposed once again inviting Kazakhstan’s youth wrestling team as a key guest for the tournament to be held in Xi’an later this year.

Modern infrastructure and inclusive sports
As part of the visit, the Consul General toured sports, medical, rehabilitation, and educational facilities, as well as an inclusive sports center operating in Shaanxi Province. He visited the training complex for wrestling, weightlifting, and judo, gaining insight into the athletes’ training environment and daily living conditions.

Commitment to further cooperation
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation in sports and tourism. It was noted that such initiatives not only promote athletic development but also contribute to closer people-to-people ties and long-term regional partnership between Kazakhstan and China.
