Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas Askhаt Khasenov held a meeting with Mustafa Kapucu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to Kazakhstan. The sides discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in geological exploration, a key area of strategic partnership between the two countries, DKNews.kz reports.

Growing partnership between KazMunayGas and TPAO

During the meeting, the parties highlighted the dynamic cooperation between KazMunayGas and Türkiye’s state-owned oil and gas company Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). The partnership is gaining momentum as part of joint efforts to explore Kazakhstan’s hydrocarbon potential and expand energy cooperation.

Earlier, TPAO specialists studied several prospective exploration blocks in Kazakhstan. Following the analysis, the Turkish side focused its interest on the “Bolshoy Zhambyl” offshore project in the North Caspian Sea, which is considered one of the promising offshore areas.

Detailed assessment of the Bolshoy Zhambyl project underway

TPAO is currently conducting a detailed technical and economic evaluation of the Bolshoy Zhambyl site. This stage is crucial for determining the project’s viability and shaping future investment decisions, as well as defining possible formats of cooperation.

Offshore projects in the North Caspian remain strategically important for Kazakhstan, both in terms of expanding its resource base and attracting international partners with advanced technologies.

Joint efforts to unlock energy potential

Following the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation in geological exploration, aiming to jointly develop the energy potential of Kazakhstan and Türkiye. The talks reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepening their strategic energy partnership.

For KazMunayGas, cooperation with experienced international partners such as TPAO is an important element of its strategy to implement complex, capital-intensive projects, particularly in offshore areas of the Caspian Sea.
