A meeting between senior energy officials of Kazakhstan and Türkiye has marked a new step toward deeper cooperation in the oil and gas industry. In Ankara, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas Askhat Khassenov met with Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar to discuss expanding bilateral engagement in the energy sector, DKNews.kz reports.

The discussions focused on practical ways to enhance cooperation between KazMunayGas and energy companies from Türkiye, with an emphasis on moving from preliminary assessments to real implementation of joint projects.

Geological exploration as a key priority

Particular attention during the meeting was given to cooperation between KazMunayGas and Türkiye’s state-owned Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). The two companies have recently carried out comprehensive joint work to study promising geological exploration projects located in both Kazakhstan and Türkiye.

At this stage, the parties are considering a transition toward the practical realization of these joint initiatives. Such projects are expected to stimulate exploration activity and contribute to unlocking new hydrocarbon potential in both countries.

Advanced technologies and human capital development

Askhat Khassenov expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye for its constructive and substantive dialogue. He noted that expanding cooperation with Turkish partners would help intensify geological exploration efforts, support the introduction of advanced technologies, and promote the development of human capital.

In the modern oil and gas industry, where technological complexity is steadily increasing, collaboration in innovation and workforce development is seen as a critical factor for long-term success.

Shared commitment to economic development

Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness to continue joint work aimed at strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sector in the interests of the economic development of Kazakhstan and Türkiye.

Experts note that closer interaction between KazMunayGas and energy institutions in Türkiye aligns with the broader strategic partnership between the two countries and could open new opportunities for regional energy cooperation.
