A key meeting on renewable energy cooperation took place in Beijing, where Samruk-Kazyna CEO Nurlan Zhakupov met with Li Qiang, Chairman of the Board of SANY Renewables. The talks focused on the progress of a joint project to localize the production of wind power components in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region, DKNews.kz reports.

From launch to real production

The plant’s technical opening was held in September with the participation of the Head of State, underscoring the project’s strategic importance for Kazakhstan. Since then, the project has moved beyond the construction phase and has already begun receiving its first commercial orders — a critical milestone for any large-scale industrial facility.

This shift from launch to actual market demand signals that the plant is not just a symbolic investment, but a commercially viable enterprise.

One of the largest renewable projects in Kazakhstan

The Zhambyl plant is considered one of the largest industrial projects in Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector. With an annual capacity of 2 GW, the facility is capable of supplying components for large-scale wind power projects both domestically and potentially abroad.

A key feature of the project is genuine technology localization. Rather than simple assembly, the plant is designed to build local expertise, develop skilled labor and embed advanced manufacturing capabilities within Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan as a regional green manufacturing hub

The fact that the plant has already secured confirmed commercial orders from leading international energy companies highlights Kazakhstan’s growing role not only as a renewable energy market, but also as a manufacturing hub for wind power equipment.

Such projects bring multiple benefits to the economy, including job creation, regional industrial development and technology transfer, while also supporting the country’s broader decarbonization goals.

Commitment to further cooperation

During the meeting, both sides noted significant progress in the project’s implementation and reaffirmed their readiness to continue and deepen cooperation. This opens the door to potential expansion of the facility or the launch of additional joint initiatives in the renewable energy sector.

SANY Renewables is a subsidiary of SANY Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of renewable energy equipment. Its involvement adds strong international credibility to the project and strengthens Kazakhstan’s position in the global energy transition.

Why it matters

The Zhambyl wind energy plant represents a concrete step in Kazakhstan’s shift toward a more diversified and sustainable energy mix. It demonstrates how strategic partnerships can translate into real industrial capacity, technology localization and long-term economic value.

The Beijing meeting confirmed that cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in renewable energy is not only continuing, but accelerating — with tangible results already visible on the ground.
