Kazakhstan and Morocco are giving new substance to cooperation between their capitals. Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Morocco Saulekul Sailaukyzy met with Rabat Mayor Fatiha El Moudni to discuss how the Astana–Rabat partnership is evolving from formal agreements into practical collaboration.
At the center of the talks was the implementation of the 2024–2027 Roadmap between Astana and Rabat — a document that goes far beyond diplomacy and focuses on real urban development priorities, DKNews.kz reports.
Cities as engines of cooperation
The discussion focused on areas that directly shape the quality of life in modern cities. Urban planning, housing development, green public spaces, tourism, and smart city technologies were among the key topics raised during the meeting.
Both sides emphasized that sustainable city growth today depends on innovation, digital solutions, and environmentally responsible approaches. Regular dialogue and mutual visits were highlighted as essential tools for sharing best practices and turning ideas into action.
Culture as a bridge between people
A separate part of the meeting was devoted to cultural cooperation. Ambassador Sailaukyzy outlined plans for a large-scale celebration of Nauryz in Rabat, to be held with the participation of the Astana Governorate and Kazakh artists.
The event is expected to introduce Moroccan audiences to Kazakh traditions, everyday culture, national cuisine, and music. Such initiatives, the sides agreed, help build genuine people-to-people connections and make international cooperation more tangible and accessible.
Rabat Mayor plans visit to Astana
Mayor Fatiha El Moudni praised the positive dynamics of bilateral relations and Kazakhstan’s ongoing reforms. She also expressed her intention to visit Astana later this year to study Kazakhstan’s urban development experience firsthand.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the twin town relationship between Astana and Rabat, officially established in 2023, and open the door to new joint initiatives at the municipal level.
From dialogue to long-term partnership
The meeting underscored that cooperation between Astana and Rabat is steadily moving toward a results-oriented model. Urban development, sustainability, culture, and tourism are becoming practical areas of collaboration rather than abstract concepts.
Both sides confirmed their readiness to continue dialogue and expand cooperation, positioning city diplomacy as a key driver of long-term, mutually beneficial relations between Kazakhstan and Morocco.
