A recent meeting in Kazan highlighted how work with the Kazakh diaspora is moving beyond formal engagement toward long-term cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The discussion focused on identity, continuity, and concrete plans for the future, DKNews.kz reports.

Dialogue with the Kazakh community

The Consul General of Kazakhstan in Kazan, Erlan Yskakov, met with activists of the Regional Public Organization “National-Cultural Autonomy of Kazakhs of Tatarstan ‘Kazakhstan’.” The meeting brought together diplomats and community leaders to openly discuss the challenges and priorities facing the Kazakh diaspora in the region.

During the talks, Erlan Yskakov congratulated Kusaiyn Ismagulov on his appointment as Chairman of the organization, noting his many years of experience and personal contribution to strengthening interethnic harmony in the republic.

Language, culture, and living traditions

A significant part of the discussion was devoted to preserving the native language and passing cultural traditions on to younger generations. The sides addressed:

  • maintaining the Kazakh language environment
  • organizing regular dombra training courses
  • engaging young people in cultural initiatives

These efforts were described as essential for ensuring that Kazakh culture remains a living, evolving part of community life rather than a symbolic heritage.

Clear plans for 2026

The meeting also had a strong practical focus. Participants outlined a plan of activities for 2026, including the joint organization of cultural and humanitarian events. These initiatives are expected to strengthen internal community ties and promote Kazakh culture more broadly within Tatarstan.

Honoring those who built the foundation

Special attention was paid to the role of Sagit Zhaksybayev in the formation of the Kazakh national-cultural autonomy and in establishing the Association of National-Cultural Organizations of the republic, which he led from 1993 to 2007.

The importance of initiatives aimed at preserving his legacy was emphasized, recognizing his contribution to interethnic dialogue and the consolidation of ethnic communities in the region.

“Otandastar” as a unifying force

The meeting also highlighted the growing importance of the Otandastar Foundation, which plays a key role in uniting Kazakh diasporas abroad. Through cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the foundation helps preserve the national identity of Kazakhs living outside their historical homeland.

Building the future through culture

The Kazan meeting demonstrated that Kazakhstan’s engagement with its diaspora is rooted in people-to-people connections, culture, and shared responsibility for the future. Language, music, historical memory, and community initiatives continue to serve as the main pillars uniting Kazakhs abroad.

Such dialogue not only strengthens cultural identity today but also lays a solid foundation for the next generation.
