Kazakhstan and China are strengthening their regional ties. The Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Guangzhou, Valikhan Sarsembekov, held a meeting with Ma Wenfeng, Head of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province, to discuss priority areas of bilateral cooperation, DKNews.kz reports.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of the official opening of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Guangzhou, giving the dialogue both symbolic and practical significance.
Why Guangdong matters
Guangdong Province is one of China’s most powerful economic and technological hubs. It is home to major industrial clusters, leading digital companies, and advanced innovation centers. Against this background, the two sides focused on cooperation in artificial intelligence, digitalization, investment attraction, trade and economic relations, as well as scientific and technological collaboration.
For Kazakhstan, these areas are strategically important as the country pursues economic diversification and the development of high-tech industries.
Regional cooperation in focus
Special attention was paid to Guangdong’s active participation in the Kazakhstan–China Forum of Interregional Cooperation. This format is designed to promote direct links between regions, allowing joint projects to be launched more efficiently beyond the central government level.
The parties also discussed the establishment of sister-region relationships between regions of Kazakhstan and Guangdong Province, which could open new opportunities for business exchanges, technology transfer, educational cooperation, and joint initiatives.

Reforms and investor confidence
During the meeting, the Consul General briefed the Chinese side on constitutional reforms currently underway in Kazakhstan, aimed at modernizing the political system and improving the effectiveness of public administration.
These reforms are seen as an important signal to international partners, as transparent governance and institutional stability play a key role in attracting long-term investment and implementing large-scale projects.
Outcomes of the meeting
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides confirmed their mutual interest in:
- further deepening practical cooperation
- expanding interregional contacts
- implementing joint projects aligned with the strategic interests of Kazakhstan and China
Why this matters
The opening of the Consulate General in Guangzhou and the intensification of ties with Guangdong reflect Kazakhstan’s broader approach to cooperation with China — one that emphasizes regional engagement and technology-driven partnerships.
In an era defined by artificial intelligence and digital transformation, such direct regional links are becoming a key driver of tangible economic outcomes. For Kazakhstan, this represents an opportunity to integrate into advanced technological value chains. For China, it offers deeper cooperation with a stable and reform-oriented partner in Central Asia.
