The Dunga oilfield in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau Region continues to demonstrate steady production growth. By the end of 2025, 677.3 thousand tonnes of oil were produced at the field, marking a clear increase compared to the previous year. In 2024, oil output stood at 630 thousand tonnes. Gas production also showed strong results, exceeding 51 million cubic metresDKNews.kz reports.

These figures highlight the consistent development of the field and the effectiveness of the operational strategy being implemented.

Growth driven by targeted engineering solutions

The increase in production was achieved through a series of geological, technical and operational measures aimed at improving efficiency across the field. Throughout the year, the operator focused on optimising well performance, enhancing production processes and ensuring more efficient use of reserves.

Industry experts note that such an approach is particularly important for mature fields, where growth depends not on expansion, but on precise engineering, careful planning and continuous optimisation.

Positive momentum with KMG’s involvement

The development of the Dunga project has shown positive and stable dynamics since Kazakhstan’s national oil company acquired a stake in the asset. This progress reflects effective management decisions, targeted investments and a well-structured production strategy.

In 2026, Dunga Operating GmbH (with 60% owned by KazMunayGas) plans to continue operations in line with its production targets, focusing on maintaining output levels while further improving efficiency.

A key asset for the region

Beyond production figures, the Dunga oilfield remains an important asset for the Mangystau Region. It contributes to local employment, supports regional infrastructure and generates tax revenues, reinforcing its role in the area’s economic development.

Looking ahead

Despite challenging geological conditions, current results suggest that the potential of the Dunga oilfield is far from exhausted. The focus in the coming period will remain on technological improvements and operational stability.

At a time when energy security and sustainable production are high on the agenda, Dunga’s performance sends a clear message: investment in technology and effective management can deliver tangible results even at mature fields.
