On February 4, 2026, in Islamabad, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, continuing his state visit with a key political meeting that underscored the growing depth of bilateral ties, DKNews.kz reports.

At the start of the talks, President Tokayev expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him and the Kazakh delegation, noting the high level of organization of the visit. He emphasized that the welcoming atmosphere reflected the spirit of mutual respect and trust that has defined relations between the two countries for decades.

More than 30 years of steady dialogue

President Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan and Pakistan have maintained a substantive political dialogue for over thirty years, consistently strengthening cooperation across a wide range of areas. This long-standing engagement, he said, has created a solid foundation for expanding partnership in line with shared interests.

He also highlighted the strategic advantages of both countries. Kazakhstan, as the largest country in Central Asia by territory and economic potential, and Pakistan, located at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East, possess significant geopolitical strengths that can support long-term strategic goals.

Strategic partnership takes shape

During the meeting, President Tokayev informed his counterpart about the outcomes of negotiations with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. A key result was the signing of a Joint Declaration elevating relations between Astana and Islamabad to the level of strategic partnership.

According to the President of Kazakhstan, this step goes beyond formal diplomacy. It reflects the close, brotherly nature of bilateral ties and the shared commitment to deepen cooperation across the full spectrum of relations.

Pakistan confirms its interest in deeper cooperation

President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed the progress achieved in bilateral relations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong interest in further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with Kazakhstan.

The two leaders exchanged views on current issues on the bilateral agenda and outlined new directions for expanding long-term interaction. The discussion was described as constructive and forward-looking, with a focus on practical outcomes.

A visit with long-term impact

Concluding the talks, President Tokayev expressed confidence that the results of the state visit would open new opportunities for partnership and give fresh momentum to cooperation for the benefit and prosperity of the peoples of Kazakhstan and Pakistan.

The meeting in Islamabad sent a clear message: Kazakhstan–Pakistan relations are entering a new phase, with strategic partnership now supported by strong political dialogue and a shared vision for the future.
