Kazakhstan and Egypt prepare for new intergovernmental commission meeting

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Egypt Askar Zhenis held a meeting with Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad Samar al-Ahdal to discuss the development of bilateral cooperation, DKNews.kz reports.

The talks focused on strengthening institutional dialogue and preparing for the next meeting of the Kazakhstan–Egypt Intergovernmental Commission.

Focus on intergovernmental cooperation

During the meeting, the parties reviewed new organizational mechanisms for cooperation following the large-scale restructuring of the Egyptian Cabinet in February 2026.

Particular attention was given to the work of the Kazakhstan–Egypt Intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

The key topic of discussion was preparation for the sixth meeting of the commission, which is scheduled to take place in Astana later this year.

According to the Egyptian side, following the recent government reforms the Ministry of Foreign Affairs now directly oversees the activities of the commission.

Regional security and diplomatic dialogue

The parties also exchanged views on regional developments in the Middle East and emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue during a period of heightened tensions.

The discussion included:

  • regional security issues in the Middle East
  • the importance of diplomatic communication between the two countries
  • ongoing coordination between the foreign ministries

The diplomats also noted the significance of the recent telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and Egypt on regional developments.

Information on Kazakhstan’s constitutional reforms

During the meeting, Ambassador Zhenis briefed his Egyptian counterpart on the political reforms underway in Kazakhstan.

He informed the Egyptian side about preparations for the nationwide constitutional referendum scheduled for March 15.

The referendum is expected to address amendments aimed at strengthening governance mechanisms and expanding citizen participation in political life.

Commitment to continued cooperation

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to intensify cooperation and accelerate coordination on the dates of the upcoming intergovernmental commission meeting.

They also reaffirmed their intention to maintain active dialogue and expand cooperation across areas related to sustainable development and bilateral partnership.
